“Online dating.” Say that phrase out loud and watch people around you cringe.
When it comes to online dating, you and your friends could probably exchange horror stories for hours. And while dating may not be the biggest priority in your life, it certainly shouldn’t feel like a chore.
So what does it take to find love nowadays?
You sign up for every online dating app there is, you put yourself out there, you go out to socialize even when you don’t feel like it, and in the end you may end up right back where you started. It’s hard not to feel jaded about it.
After all, we’re used to communicating with dozens of people every day, often without leaving home. But to truly connect with someone? Well, that’s not so easy.
As a company founded and run by millennials, we’re all too familiar with the challenges you face in the modern dating world. You don’t need more options. You need better ones.
We know what you’re thinking…every dating app claims the same thing. You are told that finding true love can be as simple as an algorithm that matches you to your soulmate, and that somehow their “magic formula” is better than the next guy’s.
But since when is finding a love a math equation?
That’s not how human beings connect to one another. Neqtr gets that, and that’s what makes us different. Rather than going to a movie or a bar, your first date is at a charity event that you sign up for.
Think about the worst dates you’ve ever had – the biggest douchebags, the most self-absorbed, drama-filled ones. Would any of them ever show up to a group beach cleanup, to cook and feed a meal to the homeless, or read books to children at a library?
But we wanted to hear it straight from you.
So this past week, the entire Neqtr team (all 6 of us!) hit the streets of San Francisco and San Diego, with video equipment in tow, and asked you to share your online dating experiences with us. We wanted to know what works, what doesn’t, what you’re hoping to get from online dating, and how you prefer to connect with people. You’ve been pretty candid with us, and we’ve listened.
Here’s what you said…
And although you come from completely different backgrounds, you all had a few things in common:
- You like the idea of an online dating app to meet new people but you prefer to make connections in real life. This is the part where many of you have expressed feeling disappointed.
- You cringe at the idea of planning a first date.
- You’re tired of being bombarded with quantity over quality.
It’s time a dating app fixed that.
And you may be surprised to find that millennials “walk the walk” when it comes to giving back to our communities. In fact, studies show we donate a significant portion of our time and income to charity, despite the bad rap we often get stuck with.
So date for a cause you believe in.
Date over shared passions, not just profiles.
Date someone who gets you.
Date someone who is generous, empathetic and socially-aware, just like you.
The worst that can happen is you make the world a better place.
