It’s Not You, It’s Most of Our Generation

Is the phrase, “single and ready to mingle” starting to get old in your book? You might be single but sick of mingling in this mosh of a dating culture we have created for ourselves. According to a Gallup Poll, a tremendous amount of millennials are living a single life. Are you wondering exact numbers—64 percent in 2014! A nationwide survey of adults between the ages of 18 and 29 found the marriage rate and the percentage of young adults in domestic relationships are steadily declining. However, the fact that 64 percent of respondents reported being unmarried and not living with a partner does not mean all of these respondents are truly single. People can be in a serious relationship yet not live together for whatever the reason may be. So, with that we do have hope that at least 15% of the research could sway either single or committed. My conclusion to so many millennials being single—media. Media has created this dating culture where men and women do not respect each other. It’s a game where the person who cares less is in the lead. The idea that it’s cool to be emotionless, to not put a label on relationships, to measure a happy relationship by social media, and leave behind old fashion dating values. With a dating lifestyle like that it’s no wonder everyone is single. No one is truly happy with society’s standards for how a “relationship” should be. Once you break away from the standards of how a relationship is in today’s dating culture and accept to be venerable to love to believe it or not, everything becomes easier. It is natural. We are loving beings. We are meant to care for each other. We want to be happy and make others we care about happy. So, join the 64% of single millennials or accept to stand out in the crowd. Bring a girl flowers, open her door, tell a boy you like him, and make a relationships official. You deserve to be the happiest ray of sunshine.
